Reception hunt mini beasts

Reception have been learning about mini beasts this term.

We looked in our compost bin and found lots of mini beasts. We discovered lots of facts about them and how they help in the garden. We made bug hotels to attract more. We love mini beasts!

We have watched frogspawn hatch into tadpoles. They grew back legs and front legs and their tails got shorter before they were froglets. We made clay frogs to take home.

During our mini beast topic we have counted bugs, legs and spots and investigated number doubles, halves and symmetry.

We learned about the life cycle of a butterfly. We read 'The Hungry Caterpillar' and 'What The Ladybird Heard' and we wrote our own mini beast stories.
