Year 5 took part in a Nissan Engagement workshop last week with a visitor from Nissan in Sunderland called Lois. Lois told us all about Nissan and car manufacturing at their Sunderland plant and the different jobs they do there. We learnt from her that Nissan are a Japanese company and they use Daruma Dolls for good luck on each project they undertake. So before we started our activities with Lois, we had to colour in one of the eyes on the Daruma Doll and we all signed our names on it. Then we became car designers and made our own cars out of Lego. Amelia and Oliver’s car was voted the best so they got a prize from Lois. Then we looked at the different coloured Daruma Dolls and what each colour meant. We thought of our own goals and wrote them and coloured in our own Daruma Doll to represent what our goal was about. When we were finished the session, we coloured in the other eye on the doll and Lois said that it would give us good luck for a year! We thoroughly enjoyed the session!
